  1. Shopping

      Downstairs outside the front door of the building is a supermarket selling       a wide range of fresh and non fresh  foods. It has a small bakery and       delicatessan.There are two more supermarkets at the Blaha Lujza       Square. The "Match" Supermarket at Blaha Lluja Square is open
       6am - 11pm.

     Central Europe´s and Budapest´s biggest and newest shopping mall
     (Arena Plaza Mall) is approximately 10 minutes walk and is located just      past the Keleti Railway Station.Here, there are a vast selection      of shops,and a multiscreen cinema.
 
     There is also a Tesco Hypermarket, inside Arena Plaza Mall open 24h

     The nearest fresh food local market is Rákóczi tér Market (10 minutes      walk) Address: Rákóczi tér 7-9, VII

     There is also a Rossman drug store outside the flat selling cosmetics,      toiletries cleaning materials,batteries and we believe film development, 
 
     
There is a pharmacist at Blaha Lujza Square,where the staff speak      english. There is also a new pharmacy next to the Park Hotel at Keleti      Station which is open 24 hours a day

     
If you need any late night shopping there are a few Spar shops.and      fast food outlets around the Keleti Railway Station and Arena Plaza.

     There is a Chinese takeaway around the corner too

     There is a new delicatessan open just down the road. Open until 9pm and      full details are available in the flat. Recommended ..  www.picanter.hu

     An internet cafe is situated 5 minutes down Rákózci Utca

   3. Cafes/Restaurants/Bars

       Within 10 minutes walk there are a number of restaurants and cafes  for        differing tastes.

   a.
Arany Hold Teaház friendly,excellent tea  selection, English spoken
 
   b.
Across the road there is a very good value cafe selling excellent value        lunches and snacks, it is within the Insurance building courtyard. It is only        open Monday to Friday until 4.30pm

   c.
The Ba Bar Lounge claims to be the best restaurant in the area and has        a very relaxed atmosphere with a bar area and a restaurant. Good        quality food at  reasonable prices and good service. Wide choice of        menu in English.With outdoor  terrace.Open M-F until 1am, and        weekends until 3am

   d. The Pasta Dost Restaurant
       
        Next to the coffee house ( Rákóczi Utca/Kiss Jósef Utca) has a set         price buffet and an "all you  can eat  and drink".. it is popular at the         weekends with both tourists from nearby hotels and locals too.The         lunchtime menu is cheaper than the evening menu Recently repainted         and refitted.

   e. Arena Plaza Mall - the new shopping centre complex is where you will        find a number of eating outlets open until 10pm Click here for details

    f. Bars - The Colorado Bar on the corner of Almassy and Dohány Utca is 5        minutes away and has an outdoor terrace. Has TV football inside during        the season. Popular with English and US expats.. recommended

       Freddy´s Pub - 9 Osvát utca - beer and basic pub food

   g. Italian restuarants - there are two or three Italian restaurants within 10        minutes walk. MrPizza is on the corner of Svövetseg Utca and Dohány        Utca ..5 minutes from the flat and sells cheap pizzas and  food and        Calsberg beer.The Etna II Restaurant at Keleti next to the Park Hotel has        a nice restaurant  and sells pizzas etc

   h. Hungarian Restaurants  -  Kulacs Restaurant is on Kulacs         Utca,behind the New York Hotel is very Hungarian...kitsch,surreal         experience!! Hungarian live music.The Huszár Restaurant  is cheap and         cheerful open 12 -10pm and has a menu in English..with a bar..Paprika        Chicken 1100HUF.Live music at  the weekend.

   i. The New York Cafe
        Do we need to say more?..
        it´s 10 minutes walk but aMUST ... the cafe/restaurant is a jewel and not         so expensive given the experience and the surroundings .and you will         not forget it...restaurant can be busy at the weekends and may need a         reservation.Open daily until midnight


       Huszár Utca across the road has a small Stella Artois bar with a nice        outdoor terrace in the summer.

       Slightly further afield we recommend a trip to Kiraly Utca which is 15        minutes walk away or two stops on the tram (no 4 or 6) from Blaha Lujza        Square. A very up and coming street with a new  cafe/lounge restaurant
      "Noir et L'Or" and across the road is a new Italian restaurant
     ."Donatellas" open daily until midnight..very well designed and set out,
       but mixed reviews for both from visiters

       Four stops from Blaha Lujza in the other direction you can reach
       Raday  Utca - with outside bars and restaurants

     
 j. Indian Restaurants
         We would recommend Delhi Darbar,Dohány Utca,54..close to the
         New York Hotel - open daily until 11pm good menu and popular -         english spoken...

        Just 2 minutes walk  further down  the road on Dohány Utca,there is an         Italian Pizzeria Restaurant - very good and English spoken

    4. Theatres and Cinemas

    a. The Erkel Theatre
        
         Budapest´s People´s Theatre House seating upto 2400 people          which is situated behind the building here 2 minutes away.          Unfortunately the theatre is at  present closed for an exstensive          refurbishment

    b. Independent Cinema with English  Programme
    
        Across the road and 5 minutes up  the street is a small independent         cinema with about 5 screens, showing good independent US and         European films, with internet


  c. The Arena Plaza Mall Centre   

       This is the new shopping centre past the Keleti Railway Station has a        multiscreen cimema and IMAX with some programmes in English and        an Imax 3D Movie Screen..10 minutes walk away and the cinema        complex is open until midnight 7 days a week.Always some films in        English with Hungarian sub-titles

 

Keleti Railway Station and Metro - Trains to Prague,Munich,Eger,Pecs,Berlin etc


   5. Internet Cafes

       If you need an internet cafe there is one in the independent cinema        across the road. If you need to send a fax most of  the local hotelsoffer        this facility 

      
There is a new internet and café house 2 minutes down  Rákoczi Utca        -internet, coffee, snacks, wine....


   
  
  
    6 Parks,Open Spaces  
  
   a. Köztarsasag Square

        Behind the building next to the Erkel Theatre there is an open park with         seating and plenty of trees

   b.
10 minutes walk in the other direction near the Ba Bar Restaurant you         will find Rostok Church and Square... worth a wander ...see the photo         left .Recently restored inside

     7. Sport and Massages      

        Across the road within the AXA Insurance building there is a gym         which has a day membership.

        If you like massages we can highly recommend a local Thai and         Tibetan massage center which is located again about 5 minutes away.
        They practice Thai massage and their prices are possibly the         cheapest in town..well trained...we provide details in the flat ... only         available to our guests

        We provide a yoga mat and weight for those wishing to use them.

  8. Transport

       The Blaha Lujza Square has metro,bus and tram connections to all   
       corners of the city. It is a perfect junction point to quickly get to the        Danube or to Andrassy Utca, Buda Castle district, the City Park, or        Margit Island.There is also a metro stop at Keleti Station.For full details        click here
