Budapest Holiday Apartment : Local Area Facilities
1. Shopping
Outside the front door of the apartment building,on the left is a ‘Match’ supermarket selling a wide range of fresh and non fresh foods.
It has a small bakery and delicatessan.It is open Monday to Saturday 07.30am until 8pm.
There are two more supermarkets at the Blaha Lujza Square.The “Match” Supermarket at Blaha Lluja Square is open 6am – 11pm Monday to Saturday and until 8pm on Sunday.
At the end of Luther Utca, there is a Tesco Express open daily from 06.30am until 22.00pm selling food, drinks and household toiletries
At the Blaha Lujza Ter there is a Müller Store which sells toiletries, baby nappies and food, stationary, body care products, toys, etc

On the other side of the road to this bakery there is a small organic and BIO Bakery selling bio products, breads and rice milk . It is open 08.30am -18.00pm Monday to Friday and 09.00-14.00pm on Saturday. It is next to the rand Western Hotel opposite the flyover on Rottenbiller Utca
Budapest´s biggest shopping mall, Arena Plaza Mall, is approximately 10-15 minutes walk away and is located just past the Keleti Railway Station, on the right hand side. Here,there are a vast selection of shops,and a multiscreen cinema. You can also eat here at a number of restaurants and cafes. The centre is open until midnight and you can eat until 9pm -
There is also a Tesco Hypermarket, inside Arena Plaza Mall open 24 hours a day.
The nearest fresh food local market is Ràkòczi tér Market (10 minutes walk) Address: Ràkòczi tér 7-9, VII
There is also a Rossman toiletries store outside the apartment building selling cosmetics,toiletries,cleaning materials,batteries etc
There is a pharmacist at Blaha Lujza Square,where the staff speak english. It is on the same side of the street as the apartment as you approach the square.
There is also a new pharmacy next to the Park Hotel at Keleti Railway Station which is open 24 hours a day again on the same side of the street.
There is a Chinese takeaway around the corner on Luther Utca.
There is a new delicatessen located 2 minutes walk down Ràkòczi Utca . It is Open until 9pm and full details are available in the apartment.

2. Cash Point Machine
Outside the front door there is a cash point machine and 5 Minutes walk up the main road there there is a new OTP bank branch where you can get Hungarian Forints with a foreign bank cash card.

3.Cafes/Restaurants/Bars
Within 10-15 minutes walk there are a number of restaurants and cafés offering food for differing tastes.
b. Across the road on Ràkòczi Utca there is a very good value cafe selling excellent value basic lunches and snacks, it is within the Insurance building courtyard. It is only open Monday to Friday until 4.30pm
c. The Ba Bar Lounge
This restaurant/bar claims to be the best restaurant in the area and has a very relaxed atmosphere and a bar area. It offers good quality food at reasonable prices along with good service. A wide choice of menu in English is available.There is also an outdoor terrace. Open M-F until 1am, and weekends until 3am.
d. The Pasta Dost Restaurant
Located next to the coffee house, just down ( Ràkòczi Utca /Kiss Jó sef Utca)heading towards the Blaha Square, it offers an “all you can eat” set price buffet.It is popular at the weekends with both tourists from nearby hotels and locals too. The lunchtime menu is cheaper than the evening menu. It has recently been re-painted and re-fitted.
e. Arena Plaza Mall
This shopping centre complex is where you will find a number of eating outlets open until 9pm or 10pm.
f. Bars
The Colorado Bar is located on the corner of Almassy Utca and Dohàny Utca and is only 5 minutes away.It too has an outdoor terrace.
It shows TV football inside during the season.Popular with English and American expats.. recommended
g. Italian restaurants
There are two or three Italian restaurants within a 10 minutes walk.
MrPizza is on the corner of Sóvetseg Utca and Dohàny Utca ..located 5 minutes from the apartment and offering cheap pizzas, Italian dishes and Calsberg beer.
The Etna II Restaurant at Keleti railway station, next to the Park Hotel, has a nice restaurant which offers pizzas and Italian dishes.
h. Hungarian Restaurants
Kulacs Restaurant is on Kulacs Utca,behind the New York Hotel is very Hungarian …kitsch,surreal experience!! Hungarian live music.The Huszar Restaurant/Bar is cheap and cheerful open 12noon -10pm and has a menu in English..with a bar..Paprika Chicken 1300HUF. Live music at the weekend – good value.
i. The New York Cafe
Do we need to say more?..
Husza¡r Utca across the road has a small Stella Artois bar with a nice outdoor terrace in the summer.
Slightly further afield we recommend a trip to Kiraly Utca which is 15 minutes walk away or two stops on the tram (no 4 or 6) from Blaha Lujza Square. A very up and coming street with a new café/lounge restaurant.
Noir et L’Or” and across the road is a new Italian restaurantt
The Trofea Grill is located at 30-32 Kiraly Utca.Further details are available on their website at – www.trofeagrill.eu and HERE
This is a large restaurant with an all you can eat meat grill and other menu dishes-Open 12.00-24.00.
j. Indian Restaurants
We would recommend Delhi Darbar,DohányUtca,54..which is located close to the New York Hotel -
It is open daily until 11pm and offers a good menu. – English spoken…
Just 2 minutes walk further down the road on Dohány Utca,there is an Italian Pizzeria Restaurant – very good and English spoken.Open until 11pm.
Here there is also the new Araz Restaurant next door to the new Zara Hotel at number 42. See their website for further details.
4. Theatres and Cinemas
a. The Erkel Theatre
Budapest People´s Theatre House seating upto 2400 people which is situated behind the building here 2 minutes away.Unfortunately the theatre is at present closed for an exstensive refurbishment.
b. Independent Cinema with English Programme
Across the road and 5 minutes up the street is a small independent cinema with about 5 screens, showing good independent US and European films. Internet also available.
c. The Arena Plaza Mall Centre
This is the new shopping centre past the Keleti Railway Station has a multiscreen cinema and IMAX with some programmes in English and an Imax 3D Movie Screen.. 10 minutes walk away and the cinema complex is open until midnight 7 days a week. There are always some films in English with Hungarian sub-titles.
5. Internet Cafes
If you need an internet café for printing airline boarding passes there is one or two on Dohány Utca close to the Blaha Lujza Ter.
There is a new internet and café house 2 minutes down Ràkòczi Utca -internet, coffee, snacks, wine….
6 Parks,Open Spaces
a.Kóztarsasag Square
Behind the apartment building, next to the Erkel Theatre there is an open park with seating and plenty of trees.
b. 10 minutes walk in the other direction near the Ba Bar Restaurant you will find Rostok Church and Square… worth a walk to.
It has recently restored inside and out.
7. Sport and Massages
Across the road within the AXA Insurance building there is a gym which has a day membership.
If you like massages you could try the Moonlight Thai Massage – Thai Massage on Dohány Utca 38 – I have yet to try it.
We provide a yoga mat and weight for those wishing to use them.
8. Transport
The Blaha Lujza Square has metro,bus and tram connections to all corners of the city. It is a perfect junction point to quickly get to the River Danube or to Andrassy Utca, Buda Castle district, the City Park, or Margit Island.

If you wish to travel on from Budapest by train …Keleti Station has trains to Munich, Bratislava,Dresden, Berlin,Hamburg, Bucharest, Prague, Vienna, Eger, Pecs, Gyór etc
